As we celebrate our 26th year helping clients increase their health and fitness, one of the questions we get most often is “how can I reduce my lower back pain and neck pain?”
Research shows that approximately $90 billion was spent in the U.S. on the diagnosis and management of low back and neck pain (Physician’s Weekly Magazine, April 2013). In addition, productivity losses due to these issues are between $10-20 billion annually. It shows our clients are not alone with these physical challenges.
Many of our clients are busy executives, CEO’s and leaders who struggle with pain daily. The problem can have a serious impact on their company’s bottom line.
Do you ever sit like this at work?
If you do, we developed an exercise that can be done at work or at home to alleviate much of your pain.
This simple exercise called “Perfect Posture”, manages acute soreness and reduces the risk of ongoing pain.
To use Perfect Posture while seated, here are the five components to master this unique and effective exercise:
- Push your head straight back so your ears are in line with your shoulders
- Pinch your shoulder back as if a pencil is between your shoulder blades
- Push your lower back against the back of a chair
- Tighten your abdominals
- Try to flatten your lower back harder against the back of a chair
Hold the Perfect Posture position for 30 seconds and then relax. Complete this simple exercise two to three times per day and you’ll feel a dramatic difference in your back and neck symptoms. Using your body to gain strength is the key to wellness.
